Fortnite Hype

A couple weeks ago, the majority of the world stood still (and some servers stood still as well... When they crashed under the sudden load) as 60 bajillion people, 1.2 million pets, several youtube stars, 3 Artificial Intelligences and 1 guy at Select Start Gaming logged-in to Fortnite to watch a in-game Rocket blast off. The Rocket flew into the sky, fell back down, darted around the game world, gained some weird green energy, flew back into the sky and cracked it. You read that right! The Rocket. Cracked. The Sky. 90% of the viewers lost their minds and could not contain their excitement (including the 1 guy at SSG). Just Google "Fortnite Rocket Launch Reactions" (You'll get 837000 results in 0.44 seconds)  to see what I'm referring to. The racket broke my concentration, jolted me back to reality and made me fail my story mission in Destiny 2. I asked another SSG-attendee what all the fuss was about and he gave me the rundown. I internalized all the things he said (The slow build up of anticipation before hand, the hype generated during and the dramatic reaction after this [puerile] event) and as I sat there (in my corner) I mostly found myself wondering... WHY?! (do people like this game so much?) *utterly confused face*

In case you're 1 of the people (born this year) who have no idea what Fortnite is. Have no fear, T.A.G is here. *in my best superhero voice* (Click Fortnite *suggestive wink*)
Fortnite is (currently) the most popular and most played video game in existence. It's a Battle Royale StyleThird Person Shooter with a bit of Construction mixed in that uses cartoon-like character design and bright, colourful palettes in its visuals. The game-play centers around gliding into a zone, using your pickaxe to harvest materials, using materials to build (walls/ramps), shooting your opponents and staying alive. It is sound and apparently, firsthand accounts and secondhand information suggests it's, fun. All of the great things about Fortnite are compounded "If you play with a group of friends" and are further extrapolated by the fact that Fortnite features Cross-Platform Play! My daughter (who hardly ever speaks [much less to speak highly] about anything) can't stop singing its praises. There have been multiple occasions where she has inquired "Have you started playing Fortnite?" I reply in the negative then ask if I should. She scoffs at me and retorts with "Fortnite Hype!" ("Fortnite Hype!" is Teen Speak for "Yes! Yes, you should!") I lend her my mouse (she plays on PC) and as I watched her try to build a protective wall while her opponent jumped around, randomly firing his shotgun, I mostly found myself wondering... WHY?! (is the player jumping around like an epileptic frog?) *utterly confused face*

I can see the draw that Fortnite possesses. It scratches a lot of the itches that gamers (Nowadays) have. They want their guns (snipers and shotguns specifically), they want their wacky dances (Fortnite has some of the wackiest) and they want to be the last one standing (even if it means pretending to be a Bush for the entirety of the match). It has well-executed physics (There's Bloom and Bullet Trajectory), excellent mechanics (There's a "Storm" that forces all players to a specified area) and, most importantly, it's FREE!!! You read that right! F. R. E. E. It doesn't cost anything to get (into) Fortnite. However, I can't see why people love this game so much and why they get all twitterpated at the mere mention of its name. It is a good game but it's just that. Good. (Think 6/10) Not Spectacular, not Outrageous, not Totally Awesome Dude. Just Good! And that's me being objective. If I looked at it with bias it would plummet to Alright (4/10). I have been privy to more than my fair share of Fortnite. I can't seem to get away from it. Even people at my workplace (the least "Game Savvy" place on Earth) have asked me about Fortnite and I quickly steer the conversation somewhere (Anywhere) else.
"Dude, I was watching Ninja play Fortnite and he got like 20 kills. Between him and Myth, he's the better player of the 2 but Myth has super building skills and that's where he shines. He out-builds most other players hands down! You should check them out when you can. I know you're into gaming. Maybe you should stream Fortnite sometime. You could become famous!"
I listen a bit more to him spew about how Fortnite is the best thing since slice bread and as he prattles on for what seems to be an immeasurable length of time, I remember the last match I saw. The players' team (4 members) was holed up in a fort they had build to defend their position. They each took a cardinal direction and waited patiently for their attacker. The attacker lobed a "Dance Bomb" into the fort (Dance Bombs [as the name suggests] force affected players to dance uncontrollably and as such they cannot shoot), broke down the wall (with his handy Pickaxe) and proceeded to dance along with the group. I exclaimed "Look at this nonsense" and as I stood there with my arm extended towards the Monitor where 5 characters danced away, I found myself wondering... WHY?! (would you dance instead of shooting them?) *utterly confused face*

This is something I would do in FORTNITE not because I'm a "Bad Guy" or because I'm Trolling but because I, honestly, don't understand how so many people get so into this game that it makes $300000000 (Three Hundred Million Dollars) in 1 month. (You may have noted earlier, that I said the game is free and it is [The game is free] but you can opt to pay for in-game Skins and Cosmetic Items and Season Passes and people seem to do this repeatedly and quite often)
But in order to do something like that guy in the article did, I would have to ACTUALLY play the game first. And as I type the last few lines of this posts and try to come up with an impactful way to end it, I mostly find myself wondering... WHY?! (in heaven's name am I still typing about Fortnite?) *utterly confused face*

E.G.A.D - July 2018

"Time... waits for no man." And neither does the monthly release of new games! July seems to be a bit of a slow month for PC though, as evident by the relatively low number of releases. (There's ONLY 160 new titles coming out for PC *gasp*) However, there is still more than enough to go around.
Side Note, I've been thinking about giving Every Game Abouta Drop a Banner/Logo. So I'm asking you readers to create 1 (or 3) and send it (them) to:  theantiguangamer@hotmail.com
I'll choose the one I like the most as the OFFICIAL E.G.A.D Banner. (The chosen creator can expect a token of appreciation) And with that, I'll segue into my spiel.

Have you been to Select Start Gaming on Newgate Street, St. John's, Antigua? (i.e. physically go INSIDE the store [and, preferably, buy something]... But clicking the link is OK too) You should! Any Gamer who's any Gamer has!! They can address all your gaming needs!!!
Check them out or call them at 268-732-5191.
*Looks around suspiciously before whispering*
Insider info says SSG will restock $20.00US PSN Codes in 2 days. Get Yours! Before they're all gone!! Again!!!
Now... back to the games.
